Assessment

Initial assessment: The initial sessions with your therapist will include gathering background information, getting to know your child and setting therapy goals. This will include observational assessment.

Formal assessment: Spraoi Therapy offers formal assessments to gather further information regarding your child’s development. This can include gross and fine motor assessments, play assessments, handwriting assessments and sensory assessments. Your therapist can discuss this further with you, as needed.

Therapy

Occupational therapy helps children to achieve what they need to do and what they want to do. Spraoi Therapy offers child-centred therapy intervention, in the child’s natural environment, such as their home, kinder or school. Each therapy session is tailored to the child’s goals and needs. See below for examples of what an occupational therapist can do to support your child.

Spraoi Therapy currently offers services on Saturday mornings in the Kingston and Frankston local government areas.

Parent Coaching

Spraoi Therapy recognises that the child is part of a family unit, made up of parents, guardians, grandparents, siblings and extended family. Your therapist will work closely with you and your family to set achievable goals and develop strategies that fit into your daily life.

Spraoi Therapy offers the Circle of Security Parenting program. This evidence based program focuses on supporting and building parent/carer-child relationships. This can be delivered individually as well as part of a group (telehealth options available).

Occupational Therapy can help with:

  • Fine motor skills — drawing, handwriting, using scissors, dressing, eating, playing games.

  • Play skills — pretend play, collaborative play, engaging with peers.

  • Self-care skills — dressing, eating, toileting, bathing.

  • Sensory processing — providing strategies to support sensory modulation and processing difficulties.

  • Self regulation — helping a child to regulate their energy levels or emotions.
